Connecticut’s Primary has been reschedule along with the Presidential Primary to Tuesday, August 11th, 2020 🗳

The League of Women Voters of Connecticut believes all CT citizens deserve easy and safe access to the elections that will not jeopardize their health. We urge the Governor to issue an executive order that would eliminate restrictive language in the statutes during this emergency, and we need your help!

WHAT YOU CAN DO:• READ our letter to the editor – included below in its entirety – which we submitted to publications across the state:

Dear Editor,
Election accessibility requires Governor Lamont’s immediate attention.
The League of Women Voters of New Canaan believes that no-excuse absentee ballots will make participation in upcoming elections easier during these extraordinary times. All citizens deserve safe access to elections.

Join us in calling on Governor Lamont to issue an executive order (1) eliminating restrictive language in the statutes pertaining to absentee ballots and (2) simplifying the process for obtaining absentee ballots during this public health emergency. Today, for instance, while the application for an absentee ballot is available online, it must be printed on legal-sized paper (8 ½” x 14″) to be valid.

We cannot delay. Call Governor Lamont at (860) 566-4840 or (800) 406-1527 or email him HERE. Ask him to take immediate action to ensure safe voting options for Connecticut’s upcoming Primary and Presidential Elections.

Please sign our group letter by going to our website.

Respectfully,
Micaela Porta
President
League of Women Voters of New Canaan

postponed: annual spring luncheon

Celebrating 100 years of suffrage and its impact on empowering women today: Thursday, Math 28th, 2020 12:00 pm

The League of Women Voters of New Canaan is delighted to announce that Patti Russo, Executive Director of the Campaign School (TCS) at Yale, will be speaking at its Annual Meeting and Luncheon on Thursday, May 28th at the Country Club of New Canaan. To mark the 100th anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment and founding of the League, Russo will talk about how women’s engagement and activism today has been impacted by the struggle for enfranchisement.

A dynamic speaker with deep experience in women’s advocacy, Russo is passionate about TCS Yale’s mission: To increase the number and influence of women in elected and appointed office in the United States and around the globe. TCS Yale is a nonpartisan, issue-neutral training program that has launched hundreds of women into the world of politics. It focuses on the common needs and experiences of political women, not on their differences as political partisans. TCS students have run for office, from School Board to the Presidency, and are advancing careers in public service from social work to Chief of Staff.
