1. I am a lifelong resident of New Canaan and my family has lived here for generations. I am currently the Chairman of the New Canaan Town Council and have an extensive amount of local government experience. I have served on the Council for 16 years and been a member of many impactful committees over the years including Education, Parks and Recreation, Public Safety, Public Works and General Government. In addition, I chaired the ByLaw and Ordinance Committee for years and was part of the creation of the Audit Committee, the Ethics Board, the Utilities Commission and the Affordable Housing Committee. I recently served on the NC Library building committee and help run our local family business.
|
2. I wish there were only three top priorities, but there are many. It is my hope that we can continue the work we have started to improve our cell service in town by supporting the efforts of our Utilities Commission. In addition, I will work to help the newly formed Affordable Housing Committee continue the work we have started in town to address the hurdles created by CT's 830g mandates. Our community agrees that we need to address the lack of affordable housing but in a local and responsible way, I believe we can make progress here if we work together toward that common goal. I will continue to advocate for and support our amazing Education system, improvement of our roads and sidewalks, maintenance of our parks and downtown business district. Completion of the Playhouse and NCPD as well.

1. I grew up in Fairfield County and have lived in New Canaan for 24 years. I earned a business degree from Boston College and worked as a financial analyst at several banks, specializing in credit and counterparty risk. Once I had my children and left my finance career, I turned to volunteering and service in New Canaan, as I believe these are what makes our special community thrive. I served on many boards in the public schools and at various local organizations. My extensive professional and volunteer experience have taught me that critical analysis, collaboration and consensus building are the key traits for success, and I would use those traits as a Town Council member.
2. Building consensus, communicating clearly and promoting transparency are crucial in government service. It is vital that citizens feel they are represented, informed and engaged in town government. It is also important that citizens feel they have a voice in decisions that affect their safety, their schools, their taxes and all the wonderful town assets that make New Canaan special.
3. Transparency has been a key concern of late because decisions coming from the top of town government haven’t always been well explained or communicated. In some cases, the Town Council was not fully informed of all the facts before decisions were made. As a TC member, I would always 1) push for clarity on votes (ie. what exactly is being proposed and the pros/cons), 2) consider constituent concerns, 3) encourage the public to be involved through open forums and writing letters to the key town bodies, and 4) make myself accessible as an active listener and information source to any resident who has an issue. I want residents to seek me out as a trusted information source and advocate.
4. Preserving NCPS’ status as CT’s top school district is a priority. We need to make sure both NCPS’ physical space and technology are sufficient to keep up with programming needed for our students to thrive. It is unfortunate the acquired BOE offices do not have the usable space originally envisioned. As a former banker, I believe proper diligence must be done before any bonding decision is made.
5. An efficient government depends on clear communication between the town bodies and the public. Under current rules, the First Selectman can appoint committee members “subject to town council approval”. This process has led to situations that could have been prevented if Town Council had proper information and had been allowed to vet candidates earlier. The charter revision scheduled for ‘25-’26 will allow for process improvements re: possible Town Council term limits and the construction of the Board of Selectmen. I’m excited about this possibility and look forward to participating in the process with input from the public.

2. As an advocate for the residents in town, I hope to continue to approach issues before the Town Council with an open mind and critical thinking skills, and to work collaboratively with the other members on the Town Council as we strive to ensure the best for our wonderful town of New Canaan and residents.
3. After serving four years on the Board of Education, and four years on the Town Council, I will continue to work with the other members on all boards to help keep New Canaan the wonderful town it is. Key priorities are housing and cell coverage in town. With the formation of the Affordable Housing committee, and the reinstatement of the Utilities commission, we will work towards solutions that benefit our entire town.

1. By profession I am a practicing architect with 36+ years of experience in design, project management, budgets, contract negotiations, and construction. I am a graduate of the Cooper Union, Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture. I possess a strong work ethic and a commitment to excel and overcome challenges. The experience that I have garnered over the years is not limited to a long list of projects but is focused on the challenges that each project has presented, and the positive results and outcomes realized that brings perspective and strength to the position. New Canaan resident 32 years, 2 Terms on Town Council + 10 years Park & Rec + 2 years Open Space & Conservation Committee.
2. •Focus on creating more transparency in the process and the opportunity for residents to opine
•To create collaboration and consensus on projects from inception through to completion.
•To establish phasing in project reporting and project team accountability.
•To open discussions between BOF and TC ahead of the budget process.
.Reassess the sale of Town owned property w/out longterm planning.
3. Steps required to accomplish these priorities are: Holding meetings and discussions to move towards consensus building/results driven solutions.
Start with agenda driven topics informing residents and allowing input as to build support towards the identified goals.
4. The Town Council has experienced far too many infrastructure projects that have exceeded the budgets presented/approved. We need to change the way by which projects are approved and allowed to move forward if we want a different outcome. The Town Council needs to create clear guidelines and ways to report issues early on in the process. Change is imperative and its TC responsibility to manage.
5. The needs of Town Council can only be addressed via a review of the Town Charter and in giving serious consideration to the obstacles that have hampered its autonomy and independence. The TC having jurisdiction over ordinances needs to address and update ordinances to be in line with CTGS.
Most importantly New Canaan needs a long range vision plan that includes the development of down town including Elm and Main, address traffic concerns, parking, the preservation of important significant structures/ landmarks, and address 8-30G affordable housing, Successful towns don't happen by happenstance they are planned and overtime realized.

1. I grew up in New Canaan and graduated from New Canaan High School in 1975. I earned a BA from the University of Connecticut, cum laude, and an MBA from Columbia University. My professional career spans thirty-seven years across the oil and gas industry, investment banking and private equity. I have actively participated in volunteer organizations in New Canaan for more than twenty years, including St. Mark's May Fair, Gridiron, Town Players, Exchange Club, and the New Canaan Parent Support Group. My wife, Cynnie, and I have lived in New Canaan since 1997, and we raised two sons who attended New Canaan public schools.
2. If elected to Town Council, I plan to listen more than speak, and to respect all my colleagues. In addressing our challenges, we need to be creative and collaborative – not contentious. Public safety, excellence in education, zoning and affordable housing, open land space, and cell service are priorities for our town and our elected officials.
3. I will listen to others and encourage practical solutions to issues. I will exercise patience and appropriate discretion in considering all sides of issues. Long-term goals need long-term solutions, and I will support decisions that meet those long-term goals in a reasonable timeframe.
4. Without reference to any single specific decision or outcome, I would endorse and support courses of action and outcomes that maintain the quality of life that draws people to live here. I would also support outcomes that limit the town's indebtedness to a responsible level.
5. Process improvements that increase understanding, encourage collaboration, and lead to more open and direct communication among all members of Town Council would lead to better decision outcomes.

1. I grew up in New Canaan and am a proud member of NCHS Class of ‘85. After a career in media and entertainment in NYC and living abroad with my young family, I settled back in New Canaan in 2005. For the past 18 years I have served on several non-profit boards, including Horizons at NCCS and Squash Haven Student Enrichment program. I have been President of New Canaan’s Interfaith Council for 5 years, whose mission is to promote positive and meaningful interactions between faith based organizations as we serve the New Canaan community at large. I also love the work of doing grant reviews for the New Canaan Community Foundation and have served as a Justice of the Peace since 2020.
2. First and foremost, to ensure that New Canaan schools remain top ranked. I also want to work to preserve open spaces in New Canaan, which make our town unique and contribute to the daily well-being of the community as well as appealing to visitors. I am also committed to transparency in town government and will work to keep our town members informed- no back door dealings.
3. I will work hard to keep an on-going dialogue with my fellow Town Council members and be a collaborative force. I will also strive to seek input from my fellow New Canaanites and be sure to keep them well-informed on relevant issues up for debate.
4. For most part, I’ve agreed with most of the decisions made over the past few years, and I admire the excellent work of the current Town Council. Going forward, I can say that I would be skeptical of a hasty, expensive purchase of the Gulf Station in town.
5. In the spirit of transparency, I’d like to see Executive Sessions used only when necessary. During Executive Sessions, no minutes or notes are taken, and then the Town Council has to take a vote on the outcomes of those sessions, sight unseen. I understand that certain issues such school security and contract negotiation with town employees should take place in Executive Session, but the use of Executive Sessions for the town’s real estate transactions has been excessive. These decisions shouldn’t be made behind close doors and off the record.

1. I’ve lived in New Canaan with my family for ten years. My wife and I have four children – a 2021 graduate of NCHS, a senior at NCHS and two children in South School. I have served in several volunteer capacities in New Canaan including coaching my children’s sports teams and volunteering in my local church congregation. I currently serve on the Board of Directors of New Canaan Pops in the Park and as a Town Constable. I’m a credit investment professional with over 17 years of experience at premier financial institutions on Wall Street. I have extensive experience analyzing budgets. I earned a B.S. in Accounting from Brigham Young University and I speak Portuguese and Spanish.
2. Eliminating politics and political distractions from schools. Allow parents to provide their own moral code for their families and focus on teaching objective truths in humanities and sciences. Enhancing school safety by making sure each school has a dedicated School Resource Officer (SRO). Understanding the disparity in performance between boys and girls in NCPS and finding ways to address it.
3. Respect the scope of our mandate by focusing on reading, writing and arithmetic. It's inappropriate for a school to try to impose its values on students without parental consent. Convene a meeting with the BOE, superintendent, town officials and the NCPD to understand the delays in hiring two additional SROs for the elementary schools. Set deadlines and follow up. Assemble a task force to better understand the disparity in performance between boys and girls at all levels of NCPS. Solicit input from our administration, parents and other professionals to put NCPS at the forefront of addressing this growing issue.
4. Members of the BOE are fiduciaries of our schools. It would be irresponsible for a BOE member to try to absolve themself from any accountability. That is why we are elected, to be held accountable. It would also be inappropriate to try to micromanage the administration. Also, to categorically state a position, with limited and hypothetical detail, would be negligent.

1. My wife, Ainsley, and I have lived in New Canaan for fifteen years. We are blessed to have raised our three boys (ages 19, 16 and 12) in this wonderful community and all have attended NCPS. I have been an investment banker for almost twenty years and commute to New York City. I joined the BOE eight years ago and have served as Chairman and Vice Chairman during my time on the Board. In addition to my financial expertise, I believe my unwavering and acute focus on what’s best for kids will lead to continued innovation and maintaining NCPS as among the best school districts in the country.
2. First, outlining the Portrait of the Graduate to ensure we are meeting the needs of our students as they go into the world beyond New Canaan. Second, optimizing the Saxe schedule to more efficiently utilize our staff, as well as improve the health and wellness of our students during these critical “building” years. Third, innovate to be on the cutting edge of all elements of teaching and learning.
3. I will do what I have done over the past eight years, which is to fight for what I think is best. This includes deep research, working with our expert administrators and debating difficult issues. Those who have followed BOE meetings over the years know that I’m outspoken and will stand up to special interests that could be detrimental to our kids. It would have been easy to keep school start times unchanged (as most wanted), easy to just say “yes” to some who want Columbus Day off (and give up a productive school day in October for one in June), easy to bend to those who would argue for “tradition” over innovation. I will continue to push to make the absolute best decisions for our kids.
4. The level of participation should be the same as it has been over many years. Niche.com ranks our teachers and district #31 and #48 out of ~11,000 US districts and we need to continue to utilize our expert educators to develop curriculum, which is overseen by the BOE. The budget process is detailed and exhaustive and NCPS ranks #52 in the state in per-pupil spending (below Darien and Westport).

1. I am a mother to four children: Caroline, Spencer, Addison, and James. I grew up in Connecticut. My husband and I chose New Canaan because we wanted a town focused on families, education, and traditional values. Professionally, I own and operate RCG Farm in Newtown, CT. I am an active volunteer across many New Canaan community organizations including serving in the leadership of my church’s elementary-aged youth program. I have volunteered on the West PTC board as a co-chair of the annual Dance-a-thon and in my children’s classrooms. Earlier this year, I worked to support of the tremendously talented DOME committee, helping to raise awareness and funds.
2. (1) Academics: We need to maintain local control, invest in our special education and support services, and ensure access to curriculum that best prepares our students to excel.
(2) Student Safety: We must prioritize safety and place a dedicated Student Resource Officer in every school.
(3) Parental Involvement: Parents’ priorities must be the Board’s priorities.
3. I will work to exemplify the civility I want my own children to learn and we all want our town to represent. Excellent schools require active stewardship. Committed leaders are needed to plan, guide, and protect New Canaan Public Schools' tradition of exceptionalism. While the process to be elected to the BOE is partisan by nature, I do not believe partisanship is the recipe for success for the Board’s day-to-day activities. I plan to work with my fellow Board members to determine common priorities and communicate those priorities to our administration. Further, I will drive a culture of accountability to ensure BOE leadership is having the impact we expect in the classroom.
4. The BOE has ultimate accountability for spending, content, and curriculum. That does not mean the Board wades into the minutia of every decision, but it should enforce a set of governing principles. This process should happen collaboratively with the school superintendent. Importantly, embracing the parents and students as stakeholders is critical to these important decisions.

I am a graduate of public elementary and high school in Vermont, and the University of Vermont. Post college I have lived and worked in North and South America, Europe, and Africa and have earned an MBA from IMD in Switzerland. 2. 1) Ensure New Canaan remains at the very top nationally with regards to excellence in education for all children. 2) Help the school district become among the best nationally at operating in an open, transparent and cost-effective manner. 3) Collaborate with the community to expand the overall early childhood education capacity and low-cost sports programs for middle and high schoolers.
3. The first 2 priorities would be addressed collaboratively with the BOE, Superintendent and key members of the school district. I expect full support on the first item, but perhaps some discussion about the scope of public education. The 2nd item will require some work mapping best practices nationally with regards to transparency standards as well as comparative costing. The results of this benchmarking can guide any changes proposed. The 3rd item will require work with potential partnering organizations. Any proposals for financial investments necessary for Pre-K programs and additional recreational type sports access can be written up for consideration for the budget year 2025-6.
4. The BOE is the elected representative body of the community and as such should be able to comment or engage on any item related to the schools that it wishes. Micromanagement by boards is rarely effective and is never sustainable. The BOE should focus on working with the Superintendent to set policy and the long-term strategy of the school district and ensure that the goals set are being achieved.

1. My husband Matt and I have lived in New Canaan for ten years. We have three children who currently attend New Canaan public schools. In our community, I have served in a variety of volunteer leadership roles, most recently as Vice President of New Canaan Softball, South School PTC BOE Liaison, and the 2022-23 Celebrate Saxe Campaign Co-Chair. I am a current and active member of Renovate the Dome, St. Aloysius Religious Education & Special Needs Ministry, and National Charity League. I also have extensive professional experience in the legal, non-profit, and education sectors. As a volunteer, coach, community member, and parent, I strive to embrace an ethic of collaboration.
2. My top three priorities are the students, our families, and our NCPS teachers and administrators. If these stakeholders remain the BOE’s North Star, we can tackle every issue including the expected enrollment increase, meeting the needs of all students (including our special education students), teacher hiring and retention, and preparing our graduates for a dynamic global society.
3. If elected, I will listen. I will prepare, communicate, and collaborate to achieve - together with all BOE members - the priorities of the entire district. I will keep the students, our families, and our teachers and administrators at the center of every discussion and decision. I will listen to students and parents, teachers and administrators, and to my fellow BOE members – regardless of party or politics. I will come to work prepared. Whether for public meetings, committee assignments, or constituent services, I will do my homework in order to ask informed questions and deepen my understanding of the excellent work happening in all five of our schools and our district offices.
4. I think the BOE strikes the right balance of oversight related to these topics. For decades, our teachers and administration have done an excellent job of presenting curriculum, content, and specific budget items for the BOE's review and input. This has created a culture of collaboration and innovation that prioritizes the student experience and leverages our best-in-class educators and resources.

1. I have lived in town with my wife and two children since 2011 and am a graduate of New Canaan High School. I currently coach my daughter’s Softball and my son’s Lacrosse. I have worked in some of the best Madison Avenue agencies and Wall Street Banks and most recently as a founder of my own marketing consulting firm. Advertising is a unique industry that brings together a diverse pool of talent, all of whom need to come together to produce the best results for their client. Over my career I have led and mentored hundreds of employees across sales, creative, finance, data and analytics. Knowing how to get the best output from diverse stakeholders makes me a great choice for the BOE.
2. Keeping out distractions and maintaining our schools’ focus on preparing our students to be happy, successful adults. Keeping politics out of the education system by properly filtering national topics for their fit within the town’s education system. Enhancing school safety by ensuring all schools have SROs.
3. Ensuring that all students get individual focus and attention so that every child can reach their potential. Bolstering the Special Education program. Understanding the hang up with the Curriculum Committee and perhaps restructuring it if implementation proves difficult. Auditing programs for fiscal and value alignment to keep politics out. Working with Students, Parents, Teachers and the Administration to maintain a curriculum that is right for New Canaan. Ensuring New Canaan schools focused on its core offering: Academics, Athletics, Arts and Clubs. Work with NCPD and other town officials to understand the delays in hiring the SROs.
4. As fiduciaries of the parents and students in town, the BOE should be highly invested and involved to ensure that the school’s focus on producing happy, successful adults without stifling the administration’s ability to operate. The BOE represents the citizens of this town and it is our duty to ensure that their wishes and desires are reflected in the public education system.

1. I have proudly served New Canaan (my home of 29 years) as Treasurer since 2013. I utilize collaborative problem-solving skills and professional experiences in banking, capital markets, and payments at Fortune Global 500 financial institutions to enhance New Canaan’s treasury management. During my tenure, I have refinanced our bonds at historically low interest rates and actively managed the Town’s general fund to maximize investment income while mitigating risk. These actions have saved millions of dollars for New Canaan taxpayers. I ask for your support for re-election so I can continue optimizing cash management and implementing additional cost saving initiatives in the next term!
2. 1) Protect Money: I will work with our Town and BOE CFOs, Board of Finance, and Audit Committee to ensure internal controls remain effective and our funds remain insured and collateralized.
2) Make Money: As the Town’s Chief Investment Officer, I will monitor changes to the Federal Reserve Board’s monetary policy and leverage my financial industry experience to maximize income on the Town’s cash. Every cent earned from investment income offsets an equal amount of taxes that would otherwise need to be collected.
3) Save Money: I will continue monitoring the State Treasurer’s website for unclaimed funds. I will also finance new Town debt at the lowest possible rates to fund capital projects.

1. As a visionary manager in my career, I intend to extend that acumen, interest and integrity to my position as a member of the New Canaan Board of Assessment Appeals. I fondly remember that my mother, an award-winning preservationist, instilled in me a respect and appreciation for the importance of preserving a town’s character and qualities supported by having tax assessments that are fairly and equally applied.
2. The position requires someone who can consider the property being appealed so that it accurately and fairly represents its assessed valuation, not just to the property owner, but to the residents throughout the town. I also intend to bring understanding and empathy for individuals who are seeking fair and equitable assessments of their properties’ value when they file an appeal with the Board.

As a CT attorney, I understand constable duties: civil procedure, probate law, decedents’ estates, courtroom procedures, and I passed a character investigation. My qualifications include working with attorneys on sensitive legal matters. I am a member of The Family Fourth Committee, C.E.R.T., Exchange Club [Christmas Tree Sales, ice cream socials, and repair work for disabled]. I received a CT General Assembly Award for my Outstanding Volunteer Service. I look forward to becoming your constable.

The main qualification for the role of Constable, in my opinion, is the sense of gratitude I have for this town and for the opportunity to serve. New Canaan has given us so much. My business, G. Albert Men’s Groomers, and my family donate to and participate in civic activities, including yearly sponsorship of the NC Youth Baseball team. I look forward to continue to serve the people in my role as Constable, and to contribute to the fabric of life in this wonderful community."

The most important qualification of a Constable is to be available and responsive on short notice. In addition, it is necessary to maintain strict confidentiality and a respectful demeanor. As an active Constable for more than a decade, I've met these standards while serving the legal needs of residents. I enjoy the role and look forward to continuing to serve New Canaan.
